When selling on eBay, you rely on fair trade. For those who choose to make selling on eBay your business & livelihood, you understand the rules of the game. You have customers who bring you merchandise; you then have to research it, write about it, photograph it, price it, post it, answer questions of potential buyers, ship it and then pray that the buyer is happy so that they leave you positive feedback. As an ex-power seller, I can attest that the process is incredibly time consuming and quite a bit of work. As a seller, that’s your end of the bargain. Getting fair feedback has been what equalizes the process and creates fair trade (aka, Karma) and keeps you in the selling game.

Now, I will say, having been on the buying end as well, not all sellers are created equal. Most are hard working and honest, some not quite so and just want to sell it and run. Buyers share the same, shall we say, quirky temperament. While most are good, honest, buying folk who bid, pay and leave fair feedback, there are still those who are, again, quirky. They bid, don’t pay and you are left to start the entire process of listing the same item again. Or, they bid, pay and then for some unforeseen reason feel the need to leave negative feedback or worse yet, claim that a perfectly described item is not something they should have to pay for. Not only does this require tremendous amounts of time and energy, you then have to pay eBay (and possibly even PayPal) on every possible front. So for the seller, Karma has been your friend. When you have a not-so-fair customer, you have the option of leaving negative feedback so sellers can warn other sellers of a bidder they should watch out for.

eBay has decided to remove fair play from the fair trade business. They have decided that the customer isn’t just “always right” but has the power, if they so deem, to hurt the seller without any repercussions. Again, some sellers deserve this treatment, but for the most part, they don’t.

That’s why we created RepXchange.com - as a way to bring fairness and transparency back into selling on eBay.
